About Movie Selector
Movie Selector helps you find great films without the endless scrolling. It was built by Todd Hunkin as a way to pick movies on date nights with his girlfriend. They kept spending 30 minutes arguing about what to watch, so he built this instead.
How it works: the app ranks thousands of films from 1980 onwards using a blend of IMDB and TMDB ratings, with a slight bias toward newer releases so you're not always watching films from the 90s (unless you want to). As you rate films, the app learns your taste and gently adjusts recommendations to match. The genre rotation system ensures you see a varied mix rather than 50 dramas in a row.
No data is collected. Everything is stored locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to any server. Your ratings, watchlist, and preferences exist only on your device. You can export your data as a shareable link or back it up anytime.
This app uses data from IMDB and The Movie Database (TMDB). Film ratings, metadata, and poster images are sourced from their public APIs. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
